Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

The technology is based on lithotripsy, which has been used for many years to treat kidney stones. Shockwaves refers to mechanical pressure pulses that are focused on the injured area using a special hand held applicator. These shockwaves will break down scar tissue and calcifications in the area, which in chronic cases the body is unable to repair itself. As the shockwave breaks down the tissue, the body starts generating new tissue leading to improved healing, better function and relief of pain.

Had my first appointment with Trevor, my arm feels better after the first treatment. Still some way to go but I feel very positive about the road to recovery and I couldn’t ask for a better service. Very professional. There was come confusion over payment as I’m going through Bupa that was my fault when I booked. Penny the practice manager has Emailed me this morning to resolve the issue. Top marks all round. Will definitely use the performance clinic again “when” I have my next misadventure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clinical studies show shockwave therapy is highly successful in reducing pain and inflammation while restoring mobility.

A clinical study published in SICOT-J found significant improvements in pain and mobility in patients treated for calcified rotator cuff tendinopathy, with nearly all calcific deposits disappearing following treatment.

Most research supports 3–5 sessions delivered once or twice per week.

Chronic conditions may require up to 5–6 sessions. Packages are available or treatments can be booked individually.

Most patients experience little to no pain during treatment.

Mild discomfort may occasionally occur, particularly when injuries are located closer to bone.
